For the first time since 2007, the American Academy of Pediatrics has updated their clinical recommendations for treating children with autism. Pediatricians are now encouraged to check for signs of autism at every wellness visit starting at 9 months and refer children for treatment at the first sign of issues rather than waiting for a formal autism evaluation. The new report published on December 16, 2019, also recommends that health care providers and families seek out evidenced-based interventions rather than interventions with questionable findings. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) utilizes all practices identified by the National Professional Development Center on ASD.
